Providence, RI’s up and coming metallic hardcore powerhouse THE EMPIRE SHALL FALL (featuring ex-Killswitch Engage throat Jesse Leach on vocals) have taken a break from promoting their upcoming debut, ‘Awaken,’ to give back to their community and help a fallen comrade. The band’ is slated to perform at a October 23 benefit show for their dear friend and important fixture in the Providence music scene, Dan Tanner, who sustained grievous injuries after a hit-and-run earlier this year.

Guitarist Nick Sollecito made the following statement about the upcoming benefit show, which will also feature local heavyweights Mast, Bonestorm, and Riff Cannon:

“I hear about this sort of thing a lot.  Someone who’s life is turned upside down becuase of an accident or life threatening illness.  This time, it hit us close to home, as Dan is someone we know and have shared the stage with.  Now, after holding on to his life and coming out of a coma, he has more bills than he probably knows what to do with.  He has no health insurance, so we are trying to raise some money for him just to pay his rent and such, as he will be out of work for a while.  The place where he worked just closed last week, so he won’t even have a job to go back to.  He will be in therapy for a long, long time from what I understand. It’s really sad that in 2009, a country that is apparently one of the most advanced in the world can’t provide decent health care to all of it’s citizens. We are just trying to make the best out of a bad situation.”

A donations page has also been set up here for Tanner.
