Black Sabbath singer Ozzy Osbourne has hinted at the title of their reunion album and says they’ve written 15 songs so far, but they don’t plan to stop there. Additionally, guitarist Tony Iommi says the audience response to their low key show in Birmingham last month was the boost he needed as he fights back from cancer.

Black Sabbath with close the Download festival at Donington, UK, next Sunday. It’s one of only three shows they’ll play with Iommi this year after his health issues prompted the cancellation of their world tour. Their hometown warm up was the first.

Iommi tells NME, “What I’ve gone through the last year, I’ve been living in a different world. To be able to come back on stage and get that is fantastic. It really boosts you up.”

They performed with Ozzy’s solo band drummer Tommy Clufetos after original timekeeper Bill Ward dropped out, saying he’d failed to reach a contractual agreement.

Iommi says, “We’ve had our ups and downs over the years, feuds, this, that and the other. It all sorts out and the friendship never goes away, whatever’s going on. This band is strange like that.”

Discussing the new album, their first with Osbourne since 1979, the guitarist explains: “It’s certainly taken on the flavor of the old stuff, but we’ve put a newer look on it.”

Bassist Geezer Butler says producer Rick Rubin steered them in that direction. “Rick sat us down and put the first album on and said, ‘Listen to this,’ Butler reports. “We were sort of, ‘Yeah, it’s the first album.’ ‘No, imagine it’s 1969, you’ve just done that – what would you do next?’”

Osbourne explains their working mantra is: “Where would we be now musically if we’d stayed together?” He adds, “We’ve written about 15 songs so far. Whether they all get on an album I don’t know. We keep on writing. Next year, 2013, is a good clue to what we’re going to call the album.”

Meanwhile, Black Sabbath have asked fans to get involved in the making of a video for their classic song Iron Man. They explain, “Back in 1970, bands didn’t release music videos. We’ve decided to take Iron Man and make a video made entirely out of footage of you, the fans.”

Black Sabbath have announced that they will play the Birmingham O2 Academy on May 19th.

The low-key date is the band’s third confirmed appearance after they replaced their planned world tour with an Ozzy Osbourne & Friends billing, following guitarist Tony Iommi’s diagnosis of cancer. He’s completed chemotherapy and continues to recuperate.

The band will appear at this year’s Download Festival at Donington, UK, in June and at Lollapalooza, Chicago, US, in August.

The Birmingham warm-up is their first hometown appearance in 13 years. Tickets go on sale on this Friday, May 4th.

Black Sabbath are currently working on their first studio album in 33 years with producer Rick Rubin.

OL DRAKE, lead guitarist for British thrashers EVILE, has created a number of instructional guitar videos, showing fans how to play some of the band’s most well-known tracks.

OL DRAKE comments:

“I get a lot of people asking me to tab out Evile songs, but I don’t have the time.  This led me to take a look at the guitar tabs that were up online.  I love that people have taken the time to tab our songs out, but there are mistakes, so I thought why not show people all the little details that are always missed.  I don’t want to do too many, as I think it’s hugely beneficial to spend the time learning things by ear.”

FOREVERMORE finds founder/singer/songwriter David Coverdale and company returning to their no-holds-barred, bluesiest, sexiest rock n’ roll roots. This will be Whitesnake’s 11th album and the first release via Frontiers Records. FOREVERMORE was recorded, produced and mixed by Los Bros Brutalos (Coverdale, Doug Aldrich and Michael McIntyre). Whitesnake is David Coverdale (vocals), Doug Aldrich (guitars), Reb Beach (guitars), Michael Devin (bass) and Briian Tichy (drums).

Formed in 1977, and steered by the legendary David Coverdale, Whitesnake carry a rightful reputation as one of the world’s leading rock n’ roll bands. Coverdale’s blues roots, combined with a feral sense of rockin’ and rollin’, have consistently shaped the ‘Snake’s sound along with Coverdale’s love and appreciation of impeccable musicianship. Whitesnake’s ascent to the very top of the rock n’ roll heap was confirmed with 1987’s self-titled mega-platinum album, which saw two massive Top 10 hits, two #1 singles with “Here I Go Again” and “Is This Love” and a virtual 24-hour domination of MTV around the world.
