all the people who i know that say they "aren't fans of slayer" always caveat that comment with, "oh except for south of heaven"... these people are generally the people I know who primarily listen to FM rock radio...
so... pop-slayer...
if i had to guess, SoH is also Keoll's fav slayer album... so... ya know....
so berube, your saying Seasons In The Abyss is pop? cause I hear most people who listen to FM EmoCoreMetal say "slayer sucks... cept seasons in the abyss"....
The problem Reign in Blood had was it was largely overbalanced with extremely fast riffs, most notable of their albums and their the rhythm guitars in the solo sections quite often followed the exact same riffs design and progression. However, that doesn't mean I don't love the album.
King once remarked how he believed Seasons in the Abyss was arguably their best album to date citing the album as "A perfect marriage between Reign in Blood and South of Heaven," and I can understand why.
I never believed Slayer ever sounded quite rhythmically together until around the time they released God Hates Us All or, even more so, Christ Illusion. Christ Illusion does not have the same energy that Seasons in the Abyss or Reign in Blood shared in my opinion, but they made up for it by crisp riffs and clean recording sessions.
My vote for the best Slayer album is still Reign in Blood because of its high speed. I hate a lot of the modern thrash metal bands because they may have well-written tracks, but I am a lover of speed, which is why I picked up the genre to begin with!
mega, good point dude... when I really started listening to slayer, I was analizing just how in-time they were.. and I always had to just about convince myself that they were rhythmically together.. but after seasons in the abyss, god hates us all and now christ illusion it just seems like they were.. also if you listen to the live albums like.. decade of aggression.. you can hear that they play the exact same way they record, meaning that they play well together...
anyway, to end my part of makin opinions on this thread, the reason I can't say what favorite album I have, is because I can't tell you what favorite mood I have.. sometimes it's bash my fuckin head metal, sometimes it's airguitar insanity, sometimes I wanna break my fingers drumming on the desk... or sometimes I just wanna space out to king and hanneman rippin it...
