Thanks for your interest in becoming a DJ on Braingell Radio!

The following is a guideline to see if you have the equipment, time and desire to rock with the best.

Tech Stuff

We ask that you have a reliable computer, without it you can't broadcast.
A broadband internet connection is required.
A good mic is key. If your mic came as a free gift with software, chances are it's not up to the job. Most of us, but not all, use the Shure PG58. If you have a mic that is comparable you're good.
Music, a large inventory of tunes is essential. Many songs you hear on Braingell Radio are requests from our listeners and playing requests is part of what makes our station so popular. We are a Metal station, so you are asked to play Hard Rock and Metal only. If you have any questions as to an artist that may or may not be acceptable to play, feel free to ask any of the Braingell Radio DJ's. Or start a forum section in our Music Talk section of the forum

Training

We ask that you spend some time in the chat room. Getting to know the listeners is key to your success. We have many listeners that return daily and many listeners that pop in for just a few minutes to ask for requests. As with any chat room you will also have people that come in just to harass you while you’re on-air. Knowing how to handle these situations promptly can only be achieved by spending some time in the chat.
All DJ software tools will be provided for your use. These tools take a little time to setup and tweak. A Braingell Radio DJ will work with you in getting the settings right. Depending on the amount of time it takes for the setup you can expect a week to two weeks training on our test feed prior to going on-air.

Shifts

We like to start everyone on the available weekend slots. Depending upon your schedule and desire, you can be moved to a weekday slot after gathering some weekend experience.
All shifts are posted on our website in PST.

Compensation

All DJ positions with Braingell Radio are currently voluntary. We are actively seeking income earning activities for BrainGell DJ's. There are many benefits to being a BrainGell DJ like the free webhosting account with vbdigital.com among others.

If you feel you have the gear, aptitude, and personality for this, check out how we setup our computers to broadcast here http://www.braingell.com/djtools

More info on the tools and how to use SHOUTcast is available here at www.shoutcast.com

as always email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it if you have any questions about becoming a DJ.

Rock On,
vB

lowspec, I have had a couple 18 yr olds that were OK. I am not putting an age on it. We will know if they are too immature for BrainGell at the tryout.

It may not work for everyone, but I found that changing the following settings after installing all the tools, and following the step-by-step instructions... that these changes help make my show sound more professional in my oppinion.

First with WinAmp runing do a CTRL+P to get to the Preferences menu.

Next, Click on Output under Plugins.

Click on SqrSoft Advanced crossfading and click Configure.

Select the GapKiller tab.

Check mark the Enable On Fall box, and set the fall trigger level to -46.

Click on the Crossfade tab.

In the fade out section, change Time to 100%, Level to 100%, and Curve to -0.45

Change the Signal Analyzer to Crossfade when signal falls below -46. Make sure you check mark the box here.

Max Length should be changed to 2000ms and Min Length to 1000ms.

This will help with songs that have long exits... by shorting them up and playing the next song once the songs level falls below -46db. It will also keep short tags from fading out and being over run by the next song. It will make the mix from one track to another sound more like it does on the airwaves.

Hope this helps people!

Oh yeah, and make sure you set the Compressor/Limiter correctly when you set up the software... hearing songs go up and down in volume sucks!

Re:DJ's 3 Years ago
I'm interested in this, I sent ye a PM, but then found this.. heh. I have the DSP shoutcast and a microphone, and loads of MP3's, and I intend on getting more.. Especially for Braingell.. Also, I'd like to bring an element of the underground rock scene to Braingell, cuz so far I've heard mainly fairly well known bands. And it'll be good for them to get some more recognition and that..

But yeah, get back soon.. Have fun.
