Don't ya hate when someone starts a topic like that? It's all doom and gloom and shit...
Anyway, heres the deal. After a month of trying to figure out what to do, I have decided that I need to give up my two time slots. I'm not "quitting the station", but I just don't have the time to do the Stew with the energy that I desire.
As some of you may have noticed, I have been having to miss a lot of my slots lately, and when I can get to them I am completely exhausted and can't even do them as they should be done.
Just so you know, it's not an issue with the "employees or management"... Quite to the contrary, everyone here is SOOOO much more kick-ass and laid back than the other places I have DJ'd.
The fact is that back in July I got a management job at school. Now I have gotten a second job at work, which I have added to my other tasks. In addition to that, I have joined a band, my kid is now in soccer and swordsmanship training, and my wife is in the final stages of prep for a major surgery, which no doubt will really flip things in this house upside-down really soon, if they are to proceed.
As of late, I haven't had the energy to do a good show, learn any new bands/albums, or expand on my metal in any way. My view is, if you can't do the work, then you shouldn't be allowed to do it. Unless VB tells me otherwise, I would like to stay on "reserve duty" for those occasions I have the time and energy to pop in to entertain you guys, but at this point that's about all the juice I can give at this point.
Now I don't want anyone to think that I'm going away by thanking people around here, but I don't know who I am going to see and when, so I want to do the 'ole liner notes, so to speak.
vb. thanks for letting me do my thing without giving me a rash of shit for busting format. you have a good base here. i hope you can keep it going.
wa. thanks for being my "vb buffer" when I was new and keeping him chill back in the days that I was a nOOb. thanks for your "support" on the jaxx campaign and thanks for finally accepting the fact the "scatterbrain-down with the ship" is quite simply the best song evah!
vi. thanks for coming on board at BGR and letting me push you into being a DJ. you boast true Canadian ideals and treat everyone like a friend no matter how shitty they are. i expect you to carry my metal torch and i trust you will do it just fine.
ivan. i thank you for all of BGR because no one (since i have been here) devotes as much time and energy into DJing, posting, clubbing, and pimping the local scenes as much as you do. if everyone here had your resolve, this place would need bigger, faster servers due to the crushing bandwidth the fans would use.
pipper. thank you for making me laugh. you are the goofiest bastard here.
dd, dee dee, deeders. thanx for being my tech support. and for making me "up my game". and most of all for being the closet softie. while Captain Awesome can make a person feel like a dork, I was lucky enough to learn that, one on one, he is one of the most caring people here.
e. thank you for the meat. and the subwoofer inspiration. and for requesting queensryche. of everyone here, i think i related to you the most.
wz. thank you for... well... making this site fuckin awesome. your drive to improve is inspirational. like ivan, if everyone shared your drive and determination BGR would be soooo much bigger. BTW, your voice is still the best one on the station and no one will ever top it. Who exactly IS standing on your chest?
zig. thanx for having a party. thanx for supporting the Stew since day one and trusting where i was coming from. thanx for being a fighter. thank for spreading the metal disease to you kids. thanx for being my friend. i think everyone on this station, dj or fan, would probably say the same. you are the person everyone here should try to emmulate.
mel. thank you for showing up for my very first show and jumping in my shit relentlessly. you made me prove myself to you, and in turn you made me better. i quite literally miss not having you in the Stew everytime I do a gig. every show i do, whether you show up or not, i give you a thought.
homer. thanx for being the only person outside my family who has stuck with me since I moved to the DC area. we should hang out more.
striker. thanks for getting me into the DJ thing soooo many years ago, and thanx for sharing, well everything you had to offer.
jaxx (www.jaxxroxx.com). thank you for 50 shows, 150 band reviews, and 1200 photos for our gallery. the trip was one i will always remember.
and to anyone else out there, if you thought you should have been in the list and I missed you, I'm sorry. Thanks to everyone who has come into the Stew. Both the 1st timers and the routine Asshats.
***In case anyone was wondering, I am going to DJ tomorrow night (Tues. 5/29), but after that, who knows when I will be able to do it again.
Here's to the BGR family rocking on together into the future.
...this is Elmo, signing off. Peace and Metal Grease.
