I personally don't see it taking that long. Since technology practically doubles every year, those 10 years could be about 4 years to the tech savvy and filter down to the general populous over the span of a couple more.
Of course, its been 5 years since the quote, and if anyone really wants a song, they can find it.
The big question is simply finding a way for artist to be supported by the fans... without the middle man robbing everyone blind.
