I have been asking myself this for awhile now. Are all BrainGell listeners hardcore 24/7, or not? You do not have to question me. I know I am not. I admit to listening to a wide variety of music. How can I not with a 13 year old in the house, and the fact I came here with little knowledge of what Death Metal and Trash Metal where. I am still learning about those two styles of metal. I do admit though what I am hearing, I am really getting into, but it is not going to turn me into a 100% pure metal head. I have always been a person who chooses the music I listen to according to my moods. So I want to know about you.
I do know and believe that there are some BrainGell listeners and especially DJ’s that are probably 100% hardcore metal heads. Maybe 95% hardcore metal heads. I have to take into account the fact that they may have young children, or spouses that can not stand heavy metal, and may be forced against their will, to listen to some James Blunt, or Classic Rock from time to time, pouting through much of it.
The reason I believe that a good portion of you are not 100% hardcore is pretty simple, we are all of different generations, raised in homes where a variety of music was played, from classical to country. So hell I want to call some of you out. I do not believe some of you when you say I am hard core all the time! Unless you are in a band, have a kid in a band, or by some miracle of miracles your parents just happen to be major Death Metal or Thrash Metal fans, and they weaned you on this kind of music. The thing is; I have met very few people in my life that listen to only one genre of music 100% of the time. They may not have a very wide range of music they listen to, but they do listen to at least a couple kinds of music.
So if you have any balls and are not so scared of looking like a wimp without any balls, come out of the closet, and let it be known what other music you listen to. Hell, it can still be in the rock family, like Classic Rock, or those great 80’s hair bands, or Grunge. I just find it almost impossible to believe that the majority of BrainGell listeners just listen to hardcore metal 100% of the time.
So bring it on! Your arguments, complaints, moaning and groaning! If you truly are hardcore 24/7 convinces me. If you are not, have the balls to admit it, or are you scared you will get kicked out of the inner circle? Like I said, I do believe there several that are very hard core, unless they are forced to listen to something else, especially if they are raising teen or preteen girls, or have spouses with wildly different music taste. For the most part I believe that the majority do love this music, but have an appreciation for music in general, and like or love other genres of music.
But as AC/DC says; I’ve got big balls
You’ve got big balls
But I’ve got the biggest balls of them all
DO YOU HAVE ANY BALLS/ AND ARE YOU MAN OR WOMEN ENOUGH TO ADMIT YOUR MUSICAL TASTE? I GUESS

Wow! Christi those are some big balls! Hehe! I'd have to say that 97% of my collection falls between Hard Rock/Classic Rock all the way to Hardcore/Death Metal. Okay, theres some light rock too. The other 3% is a pretty interesting mix... but you won't find any bubblegum in my collection. I have stuff like "The Butterfly Ball", "Simpsons Sing The Blues", and "Robotech Perfect Sound Track". I have earlier works from "Prince", and "James Bonamy". My collection also includes artists like "Cesaria Evora", and "Eva Cassidy". Like I said above though, for about every 3 other CDs, I have 97 Rock/Metal CDs. Oh, and by bubblegum I mean bands that we look back on as the flavor of the month, mostly like top 40 artists. If I ever feel a need to listen to that crap, I can just turn on the radio... why waste money on it? My daughters haven't grown up with me, but they like alot of Symphonic Metal... and it must be my good taste they inherited, because there mother likes bubblegum.

what is "trash" metal? do you mean thrash? and am i "hardcore"? if by that u mean listen to nothing but metal, yes i am. on a technicallity you might consider me not to be because i do listen to talk radio and news in the car. in my house no music is played ever unless you are alone. our 3 tastes dont mesh and we are all snobs.
now my question is, is this a news story? this seems more like a forum rant.
EDIT... oh yeah, i forgot about my celine dione worship.. guess im not hardcore after all.. rats.
btw- if you are talking about the genre of hardcore music, i am not. i hate hardcore. after reading this, i am more confused than I was before i read it.

Christi...I love it when people challenge the notion that metal (any kind) is the only worthwhile music to listen to. I don't think this sounds like a rant at all and looks to be designed to make people think a little. Good Job
BTW...I love metal, being a child of the 70's and 80's but I also have a broader taste that sometimes swings pretty wildly (found myself listening to a symphonic/classical station from Northern Illinois University the other day )

I'll admit. I listen to Classical. And Jazz. And Flamenco. And a bit of Punk. Hell, I find Soulja Boy pretty catchy. I know the dance.
But I also listen to hardcore, underground, AC Recorder-in-a-toilet-bowl production christraping Black Metal.
Apparently I'm a mindfuck of a person for having a Gustav Mahler symphony between Cephalectomy and Angantyr.
Frankly, I never listened to metal for the sake of being hardcore. If somebody comes up to me and says "Wow Painkiller you're pretty hardcore" I'll say "That's cool". Doesn't happen to often since I don't carry the "Hardcore Metalhead" image and don't like long hair.
But to answer the real question at hand, why yes I do have balls.

I'll listen to just about anything that encourages a counter culture ideal.

Well if you include some classic Punk-era music (old CoC, Black Flag, etc).. Most of my music is about 97% metal/rock/punk.. I am with Lichtor on the style of rock/metal - always have been - if society hates it, then I should give it a good chance to be liked..
Believe it or not, I actually still enjoy listening to some Classical (mozart mainly) from time to time and have several classical CDs laying around.

Probably 90% of the music I listen to alone is metal. When I have my 5-year old son in the car it's Weird Al, Glen Campbell, Don McClean and the Neverending Story (it's his personal playlist).
Personally, I also like Bob Dylan, Blue Oyster Cult, The Doors and Neil Diamond. Yes, I like Neil Diamond. Screw you if you can't take it. Neil is brutal.
When I need to mellow, I like reggae. I've got Bob Marley, Black Uhuru and Jimmy Cliff.
I also like Monty Python sings and the soundtracks to Les Miserables and Miss Saigon.
However, according to media player, my music collection consists of 423 hours of metal and 39 hours of everything else. So, that means about 90% of my music is some type of metal. Those of you who have listened to me will not be surprised that the single largest category by far is Thrash with 144 hours.

I don't personally own any of Bob Marley's music but I do like it! Have you listened to the band Big Mountain... great Reggae group. Their cover of Peter Frampton's "Baby, I Love Your Way," is fookin' awesome!
