Icarus Witch/A Lower Deep/Cresent/Sons Of Scylla
www.braingell.com -- The night started talking to some of the band members from Cresent and A Lower Deep. Also was checking out the new lighting setup the place had installed weeks before. At first there wasn't too many people, but that soon changed as the lights went down and the first of four bands took the stage.

The first band to play was Sons Of Scylla. They are from Carrollton, Ga. They were a three piece band with a metal-jam band look and sound to them. Some of their music is available for download on their MySpace page. They did about a 40 minute set from songs like Changing The Tides, The Fall Of A Tyrant, to Bringer Of Death. They were a good starter band for what the night was to bring.

The second band that took the stage was Cresent from Greensboro, NC. and had an awsome set lined up. Their set started with a little viking sound and the drummer was acting like he was one until they tore into their first song. They mainly played songs off their latest "demo". Some of the songs were Freedom Rings, Bloodlines, and Last Gathering. The singer Chris had the long hair and goatee of a viking, but did not sound anything like it. The third song was a cover of Iron Maiden's The Trooper and really got everyone off their feet and pumping their fists in the air. The vocals were perfect, the dual guitar playing was great. The drummer even had a cymbol with a bite mark in it. This was the last show for the rhythm guitarist and their drummer, but don't count the band out - they will be getting two new members to fill the void. This is one of the bands that showed up during DragonCon 2007 as part of Heaven And Hell Records' Bring Metal To DragonCon event. Personally to me this was the best band of the night, even though they weren't the headliners.

The third band that took their turn to play their stuff for the crowd was A Lower Deep from Birmingham, Al. This band featured a double bass drum kit. They have a sound of progressive metal mixed with a wide range of vocals. Some of the songs they played were Out Of The Darkness, A Grief Observed (downloadable on their MySpace page), and Gods And Monsters. The singer worked the crowd up with his stage presence. The singer was of the clean vocal style while the bassist would mix stuff in with some heavy sounding vocal. Most of the songs they played were off their Trinity CD and are about to release a new CD called Black Mary.

Finally Icarus Witch took the stage in a mix of classic style metal with a touch of progessive rock/metal. They had skulls everywhere on the stage and just loved the smoke machine. In the photos provided, you can see them using the drum kit of A Lower Deep. They placed stage skulls everywhere they could and took the stage about ten minutes to midnight. I stayed about half way through their set. The guitarist was really into the music and played like he was playing in an arena. Most of the songs were from their latest CD "Songs For The Lost". Also they seem to be PeTA supports, and you can see that when visiting their myspace page.

You can check out the photos from the show here or at Braingell Unsigned MySpace page.

I want to thank Hoytt from Pathfinder Promotions who setup this show. He did announce another show he is putting together on October 13th at Sidelines with Judas Rising (a Priest cover band) and two openning bands. One of which is Halcyon Way from the Metro-Atlanta area. This show will be 18+ at $8 a person.

I also would like to thank Chris from Cresent and Troy from A Lower Deep for providing me with CDs of the band to use during Braingell Unsigned.
