Forbidden's Craig Locicerno on the 'thrash revival' - Wed 12th Mar 2008 12:28

"The main thing to me is that the spirit and innocence are lost. When thrash was cruising, we had Reagan in office and atomic warfare was on everyone's mind. You know Armageddon and that kind of mentality. So it was fear drivin', like Nostradamus was laying our days out for us. That was some great fuel for thrash metal.   "So with kids and adults all pointing there attention at iPods, the internet and video games, everyone is living in a bubble of technology. The urgency is gone from everything. And I really do mean EVERYTHING. A glance here or there at the world, but we've all got other crap to do besides save it from destruction. Wow, it's even sadder then I thought after I said it out loud.   "So the world is about one AP news article away from realizing that we're in the New World Order already, because they will only believe what they see on TV. Bush is the Dictator Extrema and we have suitcase nukes in every port. Everyone else in the world wants to distance themselves from the USA. Ungood. But it's too pas-sigh for kids today. It may sound ridiculous and paranoid, but it's not nearly paranoid enough. I thing thrash and punk, real punk, are the soap boxes to display your anger and disdain. It's just not being done with enough fire and passion for the most part. To most new fans of the genre it's about how many notes and and perfection of technique. It was all so much more raw in the heydey.  "That will never come back." For more on Forbidden and Craig Locicerno hold out for Terrorizer 164, on sale November 5.
