Confirmed: QUIET RIOT Singer KEVIN DUBROW Dead At 52 - Nov. 26, 2007
QUIET RIOT drummer Frankie Banali has confirmed the passing of the group's singer, Kevin DuBrow, at the age of 52. In an e-mail to Spain's The Metal Circus, which had requested a comment from Banali on the rumors of DuBrow's death, the drummer wrote, "I can't even find words to say. Please respect my privacy as I mourn the passing and honor the memory of my dearest friend Kevin DuBrow." UPDATE: The same statement can now be found on Frankie Banali's official web site.

Michael Politz of The Vegas Eye reported earlier today that DuBrow was found dead in his Las Vegas home on Sunday, November 25. According to Politz, DubRow — whom Politz calls "one of my closest friends" — recently celebrated his 52nd birthday in New Orleans "where he ate great food and even caught THE CULT at The House of Blues."

Although the band has yet to issue an official statement on the matter, bassist Kelly Garni, who was one of the founding members of QUIET RIOT, has posted the following message on the Randy Rhoads (late QUIET RIOT/OZZY OSBOURNE guitarist) web site RandyRhoads.tk:

"I ask this to all of you not only for myself but for other friends and family. I ask that no one here offer any speculation or opinions, theories or other things that could be construed as negative or, and I'm sorry for this, even sympathetic, right at this immediate time. I am already within hours of this having to deal with untrue rumors and speculation and that only adds fuel to that. There is a tendency for the subject of Kevin to incite flames on every board and now is not the time for that. I will explain to everyone here the facts and the truth in the next 24 to 48 hours as I realize this will effect us all. So please, until then, be patient. All details and other pertinate info will be passed on to you here when it becomes available to me. Thank you."

In 2004, DuBrow recorded a collection of cover versions for his first solo album, "In for the Kill".

QUIET RIOT's latest studio CD, "Rehab", was released on October 3, 2006. The lineup on the album was Kevin DuBrow, Frankie Banali, Tony Franklin and Neil Citron. Legendary singer Glenn Hughes also made a guest vocal appearance on the LP.

Wow. That's shocking news, very sad. I was never a Quiet Riot fan, but Mr. DuBrow holds a special place in my heart for a couple of reasons. First of all "Cum On Feel The Noize" appeared on V-ROCK in the legendary GTA Vice City, an awesome game which I still play all the time. And also I will never forget DuBrow's humurous spat with our very own Molotov regarding the classic "MESHUGGAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" catchphrase. Very funny stuff and one of those great moments that makes you glad to be a Blabbermouth supporter. Though I will remember Mr. DuBrow with a smile on my face, this is truly a very sad day. I was fortunate enough to meet Quiet Riot in summer of '83 outside of a small club in a small town in Tennessee just as "Metal Health" was blowing up. Everyone was as nice as they could have been to a 17 year old punk. Saw QR again this past summer in Nashville and Kevin was a delight to speak with. He definitely had issues in dealing with the bands popularity back in the day, but he was completely humbled by the backlash. QR may not have been the best band, but they were a huge part of metal being accepted by the industry and seen as a legitimate genre. RIP

DUBROW vs BLABBERMOUTH

http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=35869

NAC.COM: It's true that the Internet gives a forum to all kinds of people who may not have had one otherwise. Is it so bad though that you would say the negatives provided by the 'Net outweigh the positives?

Kevin DuBrow: "Well, I just think that people who have negative thoughts take more time and energy to post their feelings."

KNAC.COM: To anyone who has ever spent any time on the ‘Net, that would have to seem like a pretty valid statement.

Kevin DuBrow: "I do have to say this though about the people who post on the Internet and say bad things about me and others — you have to give them very little credibility for one simple reason. I can just picture in my mind's eye this guy sitting in front of his computer and reading this which will start the rants on KNAC like they always do, and starting tons and tons of this negative stuff about what a piece of shit I am. I can just picture a guy like that who with one hand is typing out 'Fuck Kevin Dubrow — he's such and asshole' while with the other hand he's got some hand lotion jacking off to some porno site. That's his life, so I give very little credibility to it. I might read something like, 'I saw QUIET RIOT and there were ten people in the audience.' What QUIET RIOT show were you at? The shows I do are 85 percent full, if not sold out, and the other 15 percent generally don't do well because they weren't promoted. The living proof of that is on Pollstar. Go and check our numbers. Also, we wouldn't keep getting booked in the same places if we weren't making any money."

KNAC.COM: Yeah, promoters are kind of funny that way.

Kevin DuBrow: "Yeah, no one is giving to the QUIET RIOT Charity for Wayward Headbangers. That is how I view the Internet. It is a great communication tool, but I just believe the people who post negative comments on it do so because that is their life. If they want to spend all their time and energy going after '80s bands and saying what garbage they are, then that's up to them. I am an assiduous reader, and I go on KNAC.COM, and I go to Blabbermouth, and it seems like the only band anyone says anything good about is a band called… MESHUGGAH?"

KNAC.COM: Yeah — nice guys, but their music isn't the most accessible in the world, so it sort of odd that they would have so many fans on these sites.

Kevin DuBrow: "I've never heard of them, but that's neither here nor there. It's like, 'QUIET RIOT sucks, but MESHUGGAH rocks!' Well, who the fuck is MESHUGGAH, and what do they have to do with us? I wish them nothing but good luck, but you know what I'm saying."

This news sucks. Quiet Riot had a big impact on me back in the day. They had been out of the limelight for a while, but when I was in Colombia on student exchange in 88/89, they came there and played a big show. All big concerts were broadcast on the radio back then and I remember staying up late (on a school night) to listed to them on the headphones while everyone else was asleep. That show was great and the guitar solo spot was phenomenal. I had bought a crappy flying V while I was down there and after that night, I played the hell outta that thing. This is a really sad event for the metal community. The impact that Quiet Riot had on hard rock and heavy metal is large. This is man responsible for introducing Randy Rhoads to the world, the first heavy metal album to hit #1 on Billboard, and starting the LA Sunset Strip explosion. If my memory is correct, QR was the first band to give Whitesnake an opportunity in the American market by having them as support on an arena tour for Slide It In.

QR with Eric Steele was the first concert I went to in 1984 (Condition Critical tour), and this show make a huge impact on me and set a standard for live shows for me. Like others, I saw them 1993 with no expectations of seeing anything other than washed-out has-beens. Boy, was I completely wrong as the band couldn't have sounded better! Kevin had one of the strongest and most recognizable voices in metal. He certainly had a penchant for inciting controversy, but his outspoken honesty was always refreshing in an industry full of poseurs and fakes. While not every reader is a fan of QR, all should appreciate the impact that this man has had on the music industry.
