www.braingell.com -- I was lucky enough to catch three bands the The Local in Marietta, Ga. The bands style ranged from rock to "biker" rock. All in all it was a good show. The sound and lighting was good for all three bands with minimal downtime between each band. I would go see these bands again in the future. Read on about each band and their sets, I am going on memory so I may not have gotten all their songs preformed correctly. I did see some of the set lists, but was more interested in their stage show. The show started about 9:15pm with Flirting With First, from Duluth, Georgia, as the openner. The band played about a 35 minute set of mostly orginal music with two cover tunes thrown in for good messure. They were a straight forward rock band. They worked hard to get the crowd going for the night. The singer even stated about his wife's grandmother passing away and dedicated their version of Collective Soul's Shine to her. They had a guest bassist due to their bassist hand a broken finger, but you could hardly tell that he did not spend time with the band (acutally it was only the second time he actually even played with them).
The second band to take the stage was Gravity Burn, from Atlanta, Georgia. The band played about 45 minutes of nothing but orginal music. Most of the songs they played were off their new release Weight and Sea. I believe they started off with the song Stranger, and then went into other tunes that rocked. They even did a song where the lyrics were written by Madga's husband who is serving in Iraq. They are more of a rock/metal band. Magda rocked on vocals, Adam was highly mobile during the show, Josh was stuck on the drums he still killed, while Mike played with enough energy to need a towel at the end of the set.
The last band to play was PsykNyne (pronounced Sick-Nine), there are from Hawkinsville, Georgia. These guys had a biker free to them. They also played about a 45 minute set of hard rocking tunes that go well with the biker crowd. Hell I should know, I do also ride. Several of the songs they played were Hell, Liar's Den, and a song dedicated to the ladies: Goin' Down. The band consisted of 3 guys and a girl (who is the drummer, Misty Vaughn). She ruled the drums during their set, while Scott used the mic belting out tunes that would get a bike motor started. Ben and Jimmy (guitar and bass respectfully) completed the band's sound.
Before I left I started talking to Zakk Driver (singer) and Fishbone (drummer) for Flirting With First, then Adam (bass) for Gravity Burn. Told them how much I enjoyed the show and would come see them again. I am hoping to get tracks for all the bands to play during Braingell Unsigned - so tune in. I don't know when the next show I will catch will happen, but hopefully it won't be too long. You can check out the bands at their MySpace pages below. I would like to thank Josh of Gravity Burn for putting me on their guest list to cover the show.
