Live Earth is such a load of crap. Why create such a massive carbon footprint in order to make people aware of problems that we already know about?!

And they're seriously misguided if they think it'll change the opinions of politicians.

Shouldn't all this energy be invested in finding alternative power?

"Carbon footprint". Stop using terms found in your favorite tabloid newspaper and grow some real opinions.

Personally I'm all for it. I'm off to see the 'tallica boys at Wembley Stadium July the 8th, maybe its part of this "live earth" thing.

i think it's a load of crap, no pun intended. Metallica shouldn't be playing in support of something like this, especially with this line-up, it's a disgrace to them and their fans to be sharing the stage with such performers for such a cause. it's global "Gore"ing if you ask me, and just not worth the time to be promoting it.

global warming is all hogwash. the fact of the matter is that the planet has warmed up before and then cooled down. Its been happening longer than anyone can imagine. The emissions in vehicles account for peanuts when it comes to emissions, its industry that accounts for almost all emissions. Everything Al Gore says in that movie is LOOSELY based on FACT. There are many many scientists out there who debunk the global warming phenomenon. I'm just surprised the desparate democratic party haven't solely blamed George Bush for the cause of "global warming"... but i'm sure they're not too far off. And people will be using thousands of gallons of fuel to get to the show, to have lighting and power produced for the show. I hope al gore flies to the show in his gas guzzling private jet. The guy is the definition of hypocracy.

Am I only the only one thinking the whole event's gonna cause a far bigger carbon... whatever as a result of having to fly every sodder from here there & everywhere, & all the usual panache that happens with these things?
Metallica fans, enjoy seeing your heroes at Wembley. Otherwise, it's another PR stunt, more concerned with good PR than actually helping this damn world. I mean, hell - look at live 8. What happened as a result of that? Bono getting a knighthood, Geldof's ego getting even bigger...and...Um... Anything for the actual African people?

Mind you, this is what you get from a man who managed to lose an election to George Bush despite having more more votes than the Texan Stumbler

Alternative power? Wind power's a waste of farm-land, Solar power seems fine, but demn expensive, the hydro-electric stuff's efficient, but seems to create bigger puddles than an EU gathering of diahorretics as a side-effect. Nucleur power's a lot safer than it was, and it's been a long time since Chernobyl. But what am I dribbling on about, it's music news, so Enjoy metallica, but **** the subtle political message.

Here's MY opinion, I agree with him... Live 8 was one thing, that's something that awareness can actually help solve. Everyone is well aware of global warming, a few bands playing at Wembley isn't gonna solve it. Good lineup, decent cause... next to no effect IMO.

Wow, you obviously don't have much respect for musicians standing up for what they believe in. Why shouldn't Metallica play in support of this, with that line-up. It's not a disgrace at all. They are trying to give a message to the world, to there fans, based on their beliefs, while connecting with others alike, which is what music is all about. I'm not saying I totally agree with the "Global Warming Factor", however if we don't accept others due to their beliefs, there will be constant war (as there is already) for no good reason. You cannot be a fan of Metallica's if you think like this becasue you have no respect for them. It's you, and all the others posting negative comments, who are the disgrace.

My recommendation to the forum police:

If you don't want people talking about Global Warming, then why even have this as one of the top stories? You could save yourself the trouble by not putting it in the headlines...not to mention the whole point of Live Earth is global warming making the discussion relevent.

I personally couldn't give a damn either way how Metallica spends their freetime, but hell, if I got paid bozo-bucks to perform someplace I'd do it for just about any cause, barring Neo-Nazism or something just flat out ridiculous.

They got old and rich and married. That's what happenned to them. How can you write stuff like they did 20 years ago? They're just too content and happy. Alternative power Or fuel is already invented but there not enough political will to start applying it. I'll give you an example: the first Daimler motor engine that was invented was running on some peanut refinery. But back then gas was cheap, a hell of a lot cheaper then this "peanut gas". And there's a lot of pressure against alternative fuel coming from country's that are in the oil buisniss. Russia, most of the Arab world...

its not a matter of who can survive on the ice caps, its the fact that when they melt, the sea level rises 20 feet or so, and suddenly east california is ocean front property and florida becomes almost nonexistant, not to mention new york and all that. thats what it matters, and that accounts for several millions of people who care, or at least should.

10 feet of the antarctic is already below water, so remember Archimedes principle. Also the large increase in C02 production was just after World War 2 and nothing has happened so far. A while ago, britain had a mediterannean climate, and there were vinyards as far north as york. It was much warmer then. The 40s saw temperatures similar to now. In the 70s there was the ice age scare, then 30 odd years down the line global warming. By 2030s it will be "oh ice age ice age".

Actually, environmental scientists DO realize this, which is why most of them say global warming isn't real. But politicians know that if they have people believing that there's a crisis on the horizon, all they have to do is come up with a "solution" and the scared populations is more than willing to give them all the power and money that they "need". That's why politicians pay scientists who aren't involved in the environmental or climate science fields at all (marine biologists or nuclear physisists, for example) to agree with them about global warming, because the majority of the population doesn't realize that there's a crap-load of different kinds of scientists out there, so they'll believe anything any of them say about anything, just because they're scientists. Next time you read a report about how global warming is destroying the planet, find the names of the scientists who contributed to it, do some research, and you'll find that they may be geniuses when it comes to astronomy, but don't know any more about the environment on earth than you or me.

Staying on topic, though, I could really care less where Metallica plays and for what cause.

Oh, before I forget, if that's not the one you're thinking of, then I wonder if maybe you're thinking of that other one... you know, the one where all the scientists declared that global warming was reaching disasterous levels and was completely caused by humans, but then it turned out that none of those scientists were actually involved in environmental science whatsoever, and their theory was completely destroyed when the real environmental scientists portrayed facts and such? If not then, please, enlighten me.
