Windows Media Player 11 offers great new ways to store and enjoy all of your digital media. It's easier than ever to access all of your music, video, pictures, and recorded TV on your computer. Play it, view it, organize it, and sync it to a portable device for enjoying on the go, or share with devices around your home - all from one place. Windows Media Player 11 is designed to work with all versions of Windows XP with Service Pack 2, including Windows XP Home Edition N and Windows XP Professional N.

PLEASE NOTE: Many of the great stores you know in Windows Media Player 10 are available in this version of the Player. Check out a list of online stores at the Online Stores page.

For more information, see the Readme.

What about WMP11 for Server 2003? It's only one minor version up (5.2). We got WMP10 when that came out, what about WMP11?

Do you really need a media player on a "Server" OS?  I'm sure it can run without any problems, but why?

Apparently there are no online stores in the UK. This will come as a surprise to MSN Music UK (actually a storefront run by OD2.com) and all the other stores in the list for WMP10.

Dear jfmartel,

Have you ever tried a Snapshot install of nonMSI programs that are not legacy products ? (e.g. WMP, IE, etc.)
I am not sure what they might cause, beause I feel this kind should not be installed by Snapshots ike WinINSTALLER create MSI package, because these are somehow prts of the system. (for MSI packs snapshot is even forbidden !!! Unfortunately Microsoft sometimes even makes MSI packages difficult to be isntalled via GPO. For example the Windows Live Messenger must Advertise pages imported from ORCAs sequence samples, and some changes and default answers must be added like BHO, default IE home. Then it is GPOable.)
Even for IE7, I had to create a temporary "testing site" for a separated computer to get IE7 installed via WSUS.
I have many sites, and the computers detect the site and certainly get the closest DC, and also a site GPO pointing to the closest WSUS server in WSUS hierarchy in our VPN.
Earlier I have done these installs manually but because of many notebooks it is more and more difficult to organize it in timing.
Besides more and more functions the programs have that cannot be managed form general GPOs. If I create custom ADM files, most of the functions are to be manually evaulated concerning where the rgistry contains them, then they will stay only "preferences" not real GPOs.

Do you have some tricky hints to solve these ?

Thanx

Zaphod

Ui: There are good products like Scriptlogic and Fullarmor (that is the origin of GPMC tool), but "free" way is always cheaper :-)

Concerning install ... I hope at least WSUS will recive it for autmatic install later on ...
(Anyhow, sometimes it is recommended to run a local Microsoft Update on the computers, because some parts seems to be not maintained by te WSUS, e.g.Genuine Tools, sometimes the latest MSUpdate software, etc.
Maybe WMP11 will be installable like this as optional package ...)

Ummm...GPO deployment was available for WMP 10 and it is available for WMP 11. Gee...you _do_ have access to Google search, don't you?

See the Enterprise Deployment Pack for WMP at:
