Anyone that knows me , knows my fave waterin' hole in Knoxville , Tennessee is the Prince Deli and Sports Bar. Many bands find their way through there , and Iv'e see alot of 'em. Some have actually made good afterward.
Last Saturday night , I was lucky enough to catch one that has alot of promise. Three-Fold Theory from Huntington , W.V. showed me they have what it takes progress to the next step. They really put me in the mind of early Green Day, sort of a Green Day and Blink 182 has a bastard child. The guys took time out of their busy schedule to allow me to interview them. Here'e how it dropped....
Me: So , how did you guys get started?
3-fold: We've all known each other for years through the local scene. Scott and Nik played in a band together and Pete played in a different band and our bands have done several shows together over the years. In late 2003 , both of the bands that we were playing in at the time parted ways and it just worked out that we were all available and itching for a new project , so we hooked up and Three-Fold Theory was born.
Me: What has been your favorite venue to play so far?
3-fold: It's really hard to single out a single a favorite venue. We've played nearly 200 shows in the past year and a half or so in several different cities and states and we've had the opportunity to play some really awesome venues. But if we had to pick a few , the Electric Ballroom in Knoxville,Tn is just an awesome room with top-notch sound , The V-Club in Huntington,W.V. is another great room with awesome sound , The Downtown in Morristown,Tn. was a great place to play , we could go on and on. For the most part , the venues and promoters that we've worked with over the past couple of years have treated us well and we've been well-recieved by the fans , so it's just been a great ride so far.
Me: What has been your strangest/wildest gig so far?
3-fold: Well , there was this one incident where the venue owner and the lead singer of another band kept feeding us Jaber bombs all night , and by the end of the night , we were all pretty much hammered. It was an awesome show , but when the Jager-bombs kicked in at the end , It got to be pretty wild. The next day , none of us could remember the last few songs that we played. Plus Pete had an unfortunate incident behind guitar rigs and ended up yakking all over the place! Pretty damn hilarious!
Me: Are there any individuals/groups that have gave you guys a real boost?
3-fold: We've been really fortunate in our travels and have made some great friends along the way that have gone far and beyond to help us promote shows in their cities and across the country. We've had the opportunity to meet bands from all over the world , and has been a blast so far. If we had to drop a few names , Maven from Knoxville has been our de facto Knoxville street team leader and really helps promote the hell out of us in all of Tennessee. The band Solvi from Nashville have been great friends , and all of our fans in our home state of West Virginia have been totally supportive since the start. Of course , playing X-Fest 2005 with great bands like Seether , Crossfade , Cold , Smile Empty Soul , Dark New Day was a hell of a boost!
Me: Who are some of your favorite bands and who would you like to tour with?
3-fold: There are so many great bands out there right now and , and as a group we pretty much have a diverse taste in music. Scott would love to tour with Live. Pete likes Shinedown, Nickelback , and recently added Copper to the rotation. Nik likes some jazz, plus bands like Nickelback and Staind. It would be awesome to tour with any of those guys!
Me: What are some of your favorite foods/beverages?
3-fold: Another list that could go on and on. Mexican definitely makes for a fun van ride home. NOT! But seriously, just the normal stuff. We tend to hit alot of the fast food places on the road. When we can catch a good sitdown meal, it's mexican, Applebee's, etc. The drink list would say Sam Adams, Crown, Corona, Jager, Coke, Mountain Dew, Bud, etc. We're not too hard to please.
Me: Is there anything you guys wanna add?
3-fold: We just wanna thank everyone that has supported us over the past three years. We couldn't do what we love if we didn't have that type of support in every city. Support independent bands that are out there just trying to make it in this industry. Our debut CD titled "loveHATElive" is out now and can be found on these fine places:
