www.braingell.com -- The first metal show at Sidelines Rock Live was held last night. The bands that played were Dead Rites, Halcyon Way, Virgin Black, and To Die For. This show report won't have To Die For mentioned due to I wasn't around for their set. Shatter Messiah had to cancel due to transportation problems. I can honestly say that berube missed a really good band in Virgin Black, but more on them later.
The show started around 8pm with Atlanta's Dead Rites taking the stage. The claim to be a "punk metal" band. There were several in the audience that were diehards for Dead Rites. The crowd was very receptive of Dead Rites and several knew several of the songs. Radu (the vocalist) tried to make sure the crowd was involved with the show by getting them to sing into the mic from time to time. During their set Jurst (the bassist) seemed to do a solo with a slight jazz influence but ended up laughing when his fingers screwed up due to the complexity of the solo. Very solid openning band to say the least, you could tell some of their influences are Iced Earth and Danzig. Their MySpace page is: http://www.myspace.com/deadrites
The second band of the night was Atlanta's Halcyon Way. Halcyon Way is more of a progressive style then Dead Rites, but still had their hard rock/metal flavor. They played some of their standards plus some newer material from a forth coming CD (which has been in the works for a year). The singer could reach the high notes quite well, and did so on various tunes. Other members of the crowd got into Halcyon Way. The set they did was very much a good set with some crowd interaction, including a joke about they covering Breakig The Law by Judas Priest. Their MySpace page is: http://www.myspace.com/halcyonway
The final band I saw was Virgin Black. This was the band I WANTED to see. Their sound is a mixture of different bands, but you can tell the influence of these bands. Virgin Black describes themselves as "An anomalous harmony between the juxtapositions of purity and humanitys darkness." Which fits their style of music perfectly. The music ranged from a classical to hard edged metal. This is one band that even though my body was like sit down, I could not. They will be on tour with To Die For through the month of July. You can see if they are coming to your town, or close to you, by visiting their MySpace page. This is a band I would say you need to check out. The show was put together by Pathfinder Promotions in Douglasville, Ga. So if you are a band looking for a show in the metro-Atlanta, Ga. area, contact them and they will try to get you setup with one. I would personally like to thank Hoyt for setting up a show at Sidelines. Their MySpace page is: http://www.myspace.com/pathfindermusicpromotions
I will post pictures of the show shortly. ...Read More
