In Memory of Jeff Campbell aka FFEJ
www.braingell.com -- At 10:00 P.M. on July 2nd, Jeff Campbell was found expired. He leaves behind a 14 year old son,Drue. I would like everyone to know that he was a good man, and an even better friend. He was a man who only tried to help each and every friend he could. Tragically, he checked out and will be sorly missed. If anyone remembers Ffej, then, you'll remember how much fun he was to be around. Crackin' jokes while running the lights for every band. He also had an uncanny ability to always be on time, in the nick of time, to do his job as Lighting Director. He spent 30 yrs. as an L.D. Seemingly always "ON TOUR" From 1978-1988. For 4 years at The Marquee Nightclub Oct 1988 - April 1993 and 15 years at The Galaxy. 1993 - Jan 2008. I'm still in shock that I lost one of my best friends. I will miss you bro.

Backstage bum wrestling in the backstage lot at the GalixySmoking the cripler and the truth until we would be holding our guts from tears of joy. My saviour my bud I will miss you

Thank you for posting this loving tribute to Ffej.

Jeff left behind so many friends~so many admirers~so many damn people who loved him. I don't know if we can even begin to see the number of lives he impacted.

Thank you, Jeff, for everything you taught me, every kind word and deed. For every day you were my friend. I never took you for granted. And I've always taken great pride in counting you among my dearest friends. You never doubted I cared. And I never doubted you did, either.

Most of us could live twice our lifetimes without ever garnering and deserving so much love, but Jeff was one of those unique people who truly deserved every ounce of love that he received. We are all so incredibly lucky to have had him in our lives.

Too soon, my friend. You have no idea how very many lives you've made better...and we're all so blessed to have known you. We will think of and miss you forever.

We should all be so amazing.

All our love,
Carri, Casey & Richard

You were so welcoming from the first time David (Camera Dave) brought me to The Galaxy. You were such a giver making sure your friends got on your guest list and got to go hang out backstage. We hung out practically every weekend watching you work your light show magic. You were so much fun to be around with your witty opinions about the bands and the words you made up to songs made people laugh so hard they nearly cried. If only I had a dollar for every time you said “Make a hole” to clear a path to run back and forth to do the job you made look like effortless fun but took so seriously. You were such a proud parent when you told me about your son. It was great to see him having fun helping out at shows and hanging out with his cool dad during his visits. Ffej, when I think of you, I will remember you having a big heart, a generous nature, a wicked sense of humor, the coolest nickname in the group, and I will always think of you as being the best light guy in the whole world. I was trying to put some pictures & then add my comments. The link isn't working so I put a few on my myspace if anyone is interested. www.myspace.com/daynablack.

I met Jeff/Ffej when he was working for Metallica in 92 I think it was & he was so much fun to hang out w/. A really sweet guy who worked his butt off. I tried to call Jeff on July 1st but he was never one who kept on top of his phone & was connected to a Latina woman, I wanted him to join us for Employee Day at Angel Stadium. The next day I heard the news. I miss Jeff so much! My friend Renee & I helped him get his Encyclopedia of Heavy Metal signed by all the Metal bands that came to the Galaxy. I was so looking forward to seeing Jeff at the new venue. Sadly, that will not happen. My heart goes out to his son & family. I am so sorry that a great guy had to leave us. Blessed be.

My name is Diana Campbell and I am Jeffs sister in-law. I can't even fathom the idea that he is gone. I haven't gotten over the shock and I am sure I never will. He was the most awesome person and a true friend to all who crossed his path. Always smiling always laughing and always willing to be there for you. Tragically I had planned on going to a upcoming show and now it is too late. So know this Jeff we all loved you each and everyone who met you so leave the light on for all of us so one day we can find you again. Drue is Jeffs son and a very special child because of Jeffs kind soul. Please think of him when you think of Jeff. I will be gathering up pictures of Jeff and Drue and I will post them soon. Peace be with you Jeff love you!

i worked with jeff for about two years at the galaxy. I was the associate LD working with him.

From day one he was kind and helpful. he and i remained friends long after those days were gone.

he and i would joke that i learned everything about "splash and trash" lighting from him and he learned all the artistic looks from me. his running comentary on headset would always leave me laughing so hard that i usually missed my spot cue or it would shake while i was holding it. he taught me to appreciate all kinds of music.

whenever i was off on a project of my own and needed help he was always there to help me out. he helped me rig lights for almost all of the plays i designed lights for in these small houses all over so cal. he even flew out to salt lake city when i was new and didn't know who to turn to for help to rig a show.

Where ever i went i usualy tried to drag jeff with me. he loved the galaxy. i could never keep him long.

This Alex,Ffej's little brother , I went to Hollywood last night as a tribute for my brother...I needed to ease my mind...I posted Ffej's tribute flyers all over the outside "band and services" bulletin board, all those band were shitty anyway, thats whta Ffej would have said..Any Dave Mustaine from Megadeth performed a guitar clinic and instructional session, pretty cool . My dear friend Steve McGowan managed to get me in free 3 hours before the show ahead of over 1,000 people standing inline {no chit} amazing move! just like Ffej did for me for years ,I'll post some of the pics here today , The empty seat next to me in the 2ND row/ stageside left was for FFej , I'd like to say
sorry to the pretty girl 6 rows back/center who waived me on to give her that seat,i just couldn't do it,It was FFej's , she then gave me the bird but I'm OK with that, she didn;t know FFej did she??? , I later gave my seat up and 2 others to the metal chicks directly behind mei bailed early cuz FFej wouldhave

I asked him to please read the flyer, then pass it back to the dude behind him,and behind him,and so on... and so on...without the fans Ffej wouldn;t have had a job right?? Pics to be posted from different PC then this,I'll get em up soon/today , Love you FFej! your little brother,Alex

I find myself thinking of Jeff every single day. I just remembered a task he often assigned to me during a show. If a band requested something particular regarding the lights before/after a specific song, then he would ask me to hold the set list and keep track of where we were so that he wouldn’t miss his cue to do the special thing that had been requested. This sounds easy since I knew pretty much all the songs and rarely left the booth during a show, except some bands loved to change up the order of the songs with no warning! He would fret over this while making a smart ass remark about it, but we would still get it right! I’ve sent myspace messages to a couple of bands who used to play there all the time asking them to post a comment on myspace/braingell about how great it was to work with him. Hopefully they will get a chance to post something, but I heard them thank “the light guy” before, during and after the show often enough to know they greatly respected his work. Kim

Hi everyone, this is Tammy and Lexy, longtime friends of the family!!!
The first time we ever met Jeff he had us laughing…. He didn’t have a mean bone in his body and he was always the sweetest guy….. We have many fond memories of Ffeg!!! Just looking at all the “comments” from everyone brings tears to my eyes because he was loved by everyone!!!!!

Lex and I have been looking through old pic’s laughing through our tears at all the fun memories we have being around Ffeg. I used to love seeing him pull up to the house in his little “toy car” and I swear he had an “iron” stomach and could eat anything!

I know Jeff hated conflict and would want everyone coming together to “remember” him. My heart goes out to Alex and Vernal as well as Vern and Lou! I hope that Druii can get through all the hard times right now with his cousins and family. I know how much Jeff loved him!!!

I was glad I could contribute and find the perfect spot for Ffeg’s reception! I know he would have loved it! To have his little brother’s band playing songs for him, I know Ffeg will be rockin right along with them in spirit!

I’ll be passing out flyers at the funeral with directions to the reception.

Lex and I send our love to all of Ffeg’s family!
We will miss him so much…..

Always,

Tam & Lex

To my cousin Jeff,
This is your cousin Kathy from Florida. I am totally shocked and devasted by the news of your passing. The last time I spoke with you was at our family reunion in WV and I'll always remember the chats we had that day and how you were so in tune with your work and your son (Drue). I'll always remember your Spark and your Energy. You will be missed and never be forgotten. All our thoughts and prayers are with our family in CA, WV and FL. We love you all. Kathy & Kim Sands

I am still having a hard time accepting your absence. I guess I did take it for granted at times that we would always have that big Ffej smile and incredible laughter. At a family gathering at Vern's, I always expect to walk in to find you telling another great story about work or a hilarious joke. You incredible kindness and big heart are true Campbell Family traits and exactly why we adopted you guys (or forced our way in to your family). You are a truly exceptional person! I thank you for being a friend and brother from another. Thank you for bringing Drue into our lives as well. Your smile and humour does carry on with him. You will never be far from our hearts or minds. Jeff, I cannot believe it...Miss you man! Rock on Jeff!

Hi all, This is what it says on my myspace page & Kim thought I should share it w/ all of you: MY FRIEND JEFF CAMPBELL HAS TAKEN HIS LIFE & HAS FLOWN TO THE ANGELS. I MISS HIM SO MUCH. FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE EVER PERFORMED AT THE GALAXY THEATER HE WAS THE LIGHTING TECH & HE ROCKED! HE WAS ONE OF THE BEST GUYS OUT THERE! I JUST GOT BACK FROM HIS FUNERAL & HAVE MET SO MANY REALLY COOL FRIENDS & FAMILY OF JEFF & REUNITED W/ SO MANY PEOPLE. IT WAS A GREAT TURN-OUT & I HAVE LEARNED SO MUCH ABOUT HIM THAT I DID NOT KNOW. IT PUT MY QUESTIONS TO REST TO KNOW THAT ALL THE SIGNS POINTED TO HIS TIME TO LEAVE US. SAD BUT TRUE. I FIRST MET JEFF WHEN HE WORKED FOR METALLICA & HE WAS SO FUCKING COOL! FINDING OUT HE WAS A LOCAL BOY MADE IT EVEN BETTER & GOT US ON A BETTER..I'M JUST ONE OF THE GUYS...FRIENDSHIPS. IF YOU KNOW ME, YOU KNOW I AM THE GIRL WHO IS JUST AS MUCH A MALE AS THE REST ONLY I DON'T HAVE THE MALE PARTS....ANYWAY, I WAS LEAVING THE FUNERAL & FADE TO BLACK BY METALLICA CAME ON THE RADIO AS SOON AS WE PULLED OUT OF THE PARKING LOT...THAT MEANT THE WORLD TO ME...ANOTHER SIGN. HE WAS THERE, SAYING GOOD BYE TO ME & MY FRIEND KIM....I BURST INTO TEARS...I COMPLETELY LOST IT. I DON'T CARE WHAT RELIGION OR GOD YOU BELIEVE IN. I BELIEVE IN THE SPIRITS THAT SURROUND US ON A DAILY BASIS, I BELIEVE IN KARMA, I BELIEVE THAT BEING A GOOD PERSON WILL PREVAIL NO MATTER WHAT DIMENSION YOU ARE IN. HE WAS THERE IN THE CAR W/ ME TELLING ME GOOD BYE W/ METALLICA'S FADE TO BLACK. END OF FUCKING STORY. I LOVE YOU JEFF & I WILL ALWAYS MISS YOU, YOU WERE THE BEST GUY I HAVE EVER MET! I HOPE YOUR SON DRuE TAKES THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF HEAVY METAL THROUGH THE NEXT GENERATION OF METAL SIGNINGS...MY BOOK STILL KICKS YOUR ASS IN THE SIGNING DEPT! :p ROCK IN PEACE MY DEAR FRIEND!
