Motley Crue & Aerosmith Concert Review PDF Print E-mail
Written by Mike Cunningham

Moose's review of the Motley Crue & Aerosmith concert at the Grand Garden Arena MGM Hotel and Casino Las Vegas NV.

From the time I arrived at the MGM, the place was filled with Magic. I don’t know if this is because I ran right into Mind Freak Chris Angel almost knocking him into a state of elevation, Or the fact that I was about to see two of my all time classic favorites in Motley Crue and Aerosmith. We entered the arena just as Motley Crue hit the stage firebombs and explosions abound were quick to remind me that the Crue were here to warm things up, so to speak...

The first notable impression is that Vince Neil was actually sober or at least sober enough to actually sing, he did not sing like he did in the 80’s but major improvement over his latest solo effort. I am sure by now you are all itching to hear about Tommy Lee oh bad analogy crabs make you itch not Hepatitis C, any way if I did not know better I thought Tommy Lee took on the persona of Vanilla Ice with his rap like cheerleading and involvement with the crowd. Enough of the knocks....

Mick Mars who has had several health issues found the glory of yesterday and put on a stellar performance. He based his guitar solo on the Jimmy Hendrix classic “Voodoo Chile”. Nikki Sixx was having a blast and trashed his Bass in the finale.

Tommy Lee was still the showman and yes the GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS !!! They back up singers were nasty hot and the background videos were also smoking. I did not know if this band could capture the intensity and passion of the past, but to my surprise they pulled it off.

Aerosmith from the time Steven Tyler hit that first high note I was in total awe. He didn’t miss a note all night and was better than I ever imagined. The stage was huge with a 70’ runaway, which I was fortunate enough to be only 20 feet from. Joe Perry is a passionate guitar player with incredible blues-rock solos.

The added bonus was the entire show was filmed for a NASCAR special, which will air in February. The stage looked like a NASCAR garage area with racecars tires and flags. They even did Back in the Saddle again, again that is not a typo they performed it twice with a new set of lyrics just for NASCAR.

It's easy to see why this band has kept its star power for 30 plus years. The sound was incredible, the energy was incredible, the show was incredible, this band is incredible!!!
