As we all know "Rebel Meets Rebel" was the latest release of Vinnie stuff. It was released on the 'Big Vin Records' label, which of course, is owned by Vinnie. By the way, if you are in a band and want to get signed, send your material over to the label 'cause BVR is lookin' for bands to represent, aaaanyway... RMR was new to us but of course it had Dime on it and really couldn't be considered "Vinnie Paul, A.D."
A few weeks ago while I was doin' the DJ thing, I posed a question to the BrainGell chatroom. I asked if anyone thought that Vinnie would ever make music again after the shooting death of his brother, Dime. We had theories, debated future works with Phil, and other tidbits, but no one really seemed to have a clue about Vinnie's future. As a person who thinks that Vinnie was the best metal drummer of the 90's (let the debate begin), I think it would be a shame if he never returned. SO, I went poking around to see what I could find out about the subject. Here is what I found out...
It turns out that about one year ago Vinnie confirmed that he had begun a new band called 'Hell Yeah' with a lineup that includes Chad Gray (vocals) and Greg Tribbet (guitar) from Mudvayne, Tom Maxwell (guitar) from Nothingface, and Jerry Montano (bass) from Nothingface/Danzig. At the time of that news release, the album release date had been set for March of '07 and the tour was supposed to kick off around the same time.
Oddly after that news which came out a year ago, there isn't much info on the internet about "Hell Yeah'. I have seen Vinnie interviews since then and he eludes to the guys by their 1st names or sometimes doesn't mention anything, which I find to be a weird way to promote, ya know? Hell, this new band isn't even listed on Vinnie's record label website. But luckily, after poking around a bit more I was able to find some more information.
It turns out that 'Hell Yeah' created a MySpace page on 8/3/06 which has had 150,000 hits since its inception (how did I not hear about this?) and the page administrator had logged on today, which would tell me that this band is indeed continuing to exist. Good news, yeah? If you visit www.myspace.com/hellyeah , you can see what little info is included, BUT you can hear their first song entitled, "Hell Yeah".
Can we expect to buy this album in March and can we expect to see these guys on tour? Really, who the hell knows at this point, but I am hoping they pull this off cause really folks... Vinnie shouldn't just fade away, wouldn't you agree?
