Frank Sinatra, Headbanger?

Members of Twisted Sister, Queensrÿche, Anthrax, and Strapping Young Lad pay tribute to “The Voice.”

Metalheads, meet The Chairman of the Board
Just about any heavy metal fan can automatically fire off a list of bands that served as an early influence on the genre – Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Alice Cooper…the list is endless.

But what about Ol’ Blue Eyes? The smooth-crooning Frank Sinatra is not on the tips of many a metalhead’s tongue, but as evidenced by the forthcoming multi-artist compilation, Sin-Atra, many of the genre’s most renowned vocalists have a soft spot for “The Chairman of the Board.”

Released on March 29 via Eagle Rock Entertainment, the twelve track set features metallic makeovers of Frank classics by Strapping Young Lad‘s Devin Townsend (“New York, New York”), Queensrÿche‘s Geoff Tate (“Summerwind”), Tim “Ripper” Owens (“Witchcraft”), Anthrax‘s Joey Balladonna (“Strangers in the Night”), and Twisted Sister‘s Dee Snider (“It Was A Very Good Year”), among others.

Co-executive produced by Dio’s manager and wife Wendy Dio, the album was produced by Bob Kulick (who is the brother of ex-Kiss guitarist Bruce Kulick, and played – often uncredited – on many a Kiss song himself over the years) and Brett Chassen. And the line-up that backed up these metallic screamers included Kulick on guitar, Chassen on drums, Billy Sheehan on bass, and keyboardist Doug Kastaros (the latter of which also contributed “orchestrations” to the disc).
