DIO DISCIPLES: New Band Formed to Pay Tribute to Ronnie James Dio
Despite his passing last year, Ronnie James Dio‘s popularity seems to be at an all-time high. And to pay tribute to one of heavy metal’s all-time great vocalists, a new group has been assembled, named Dio Disciples.
The band will be touring Europe this summer, and will be comprised of such former Dio band members as guitarist Craig Goldy, keyboardist Scott Warren, and drummer Simon Wright. Rounding out the group will be a pair of singers, Tim “Ripper” Owens and Toby Jepson, while James LoMenzo will fill in on bass, until ex-Dio bassist Rudy Sarzo can sign on (due to prior commitments with Blue Oyster Cult).
Ronnie James Dio became one of the leading vocalists in all of rock music, due to a successful and influential career, that saw the singer front such popular bands as Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Dio, and Heaven & Hell (the latter a re-titled version of Sabbath). Dio died on May 16, 2010 at the age of 67, after battling stomach cancer.
