Obscura Bassist Unable to Perform on Cannibal Corpse Tour

Dutch bass player Jeroen Paul Thesseling (OBSCURA, ex-PESTILENCE) announces that he won’t be able to join the upcoming European tour with OBSCURA.

“Due to a very busy schedule in October it’s impossible this time for me to play these 23 shows in a row. The bass duties will be temporarily taken over by the German bassist Jacob Schmidt (DEFEATED SANITY)”. Thesseling assures that he will try to play as many shows as possible with OBSCURA.

Cosmogenesis, the second full-length album from OBSCURA, sold around 900 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to Nielsen SoundScan . The CD debuted in February 2009 at No. 71 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

OBSCURA was founded in 2002 by guitarist/vocalist Steffen Kummerer. After several lineup changes, Kummerer enlisted a new team of virtuoso musicians. In late 2007, OBSCURA added drummer Hannes Grossmann (ex-NECROPHAGIST) and fretless bassist Jeroen Paul Thesseling (ex-PESTILENCE) as new permanent members. The group’s latest addition, Christian Muenzner (ex-NECROPHAGIST), came into the ranks early 2008.
