BRENT WALSH Memorial Concert This Friday, April 27th

In memory of the late, great Brent Walsh, White Lie guitarist Kevin Reyes has put together an awesome evening of music. Featuring many of Walsh’s former bands such as Gin Piston, Zodiac, White Lie, and Vexx, the musicians are gathering together for a  night of tribute and respect to honor Walsh who passed away earlier this year.

White Lie bassist Jeff Miller, also of Fermented Youth, another band on the evenings line-up, said about Walsh, “Brent’s last words to me, the day before he passed were, ‘Continue to shred for me and don’t be a bunch of pussy rockers.’  With that, we carry on his request and honor his memory.”

I, personally, first met Brent when he was the drummer for my friend, Chris Pilawski’s band, Vexx.  At first, I kind’a disliked the guy. Not because he was arrogant or anything like that.  But, because he could perfectly replicate that driving double-bass drums, like Alex Van Halen on “Hot for Teacher”. He played the pattern perfect…and I could not. Regarding Walsh’s drumming style, Miller added, “One thing some may not know is that he was a truly unique drummer. He was a left handed drummer that played on a right handed kit and he played open stance, meaning he hit the snare with his right hand and did not cross his arms. He always pushed the music and hit harder than most.”

In addition to a full evening of music, there will be raffles where the winner could take home one of Walsh’s drum kit and another prize of a guitar, signed by all the members of Y & T.

The doors open at 7p.m. and should last past the midnight witching hour.  BYOB, but keep it in a cup or container – no glass!

The proceeds for the event go to the Brent Walsh Memorial Fund.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased via Kdude3@earthlink.net or by calling 714-317-5459
