A new release, titled “Valleys of Neptune”, debuted at #4 on the Billboard 200 chart. “Valleys of Neptune” is a collection of unreleased Jimi Hendrix studio cuts. The record is made up of 12 songs, at over an hour’s worth of tunage. About 20% of the albums sales in its debut week were in a digital format. What would Jimi think of that??
“The consumer response to Valleys of Neptune and the Jimi Hendrix catalog has been phenomenal,” said Adam Block, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Legacy Recordings. “It reminds us that his spirit still speaks to so many and inspires and motivates fans of all ages.”
Janie Hendrix, Jimi’s sister and the president and CEO of Experience Hendrix and Authentic Hendrix, said she wants to release new material every 12 to 18 months for the next ten years.
Along with “Valleys of Neptune”, Jimi’s records “Axis: Bold As Love”, “Are You Experienced”, “Electric Ladyland”, and “First Rays of the New Rising Sun” have re-entered the Billboard 200, four decades after their respective releases.
“It’s really gratifying to know that my brother’s music is still playing as vital a role in the culture today as it did when he recorded these tracks,” said Janie Hendrix. “The acceptance of Valleys of Neptune and the classic catalog albums underscores the fact that his innovation and creative force are truly transcendent.”
