Picture Me Broken – Wide Awake

Bay Area rockers PICTURE ME BROKEN haven’t even graduated high school yet, but they’ve just released their debut album and signed a distribution deal with Megaforce Records.

Their songwriting abilities and determination display a musical maturity far beyond most bands twice their age.

On their full length debut, Wide Awake, the band blends everything from melodic screamo, death metal, nü metal, post-hardcore, alternative, pop and hard rock. It’s polished, but angst-ridden and aggressive when needed. Their sound has elements of IN THIS MOMENT and FLYLEAF.

Singer Layla “Brooklyn” Allman is the daughter of well known southern rocker Gregg Allman of the ALLMAN BROTHERS. Her powerful voice is confident and commanding, and she’s just 17 years old. This apple definitely didn’t fall too far from the family tree.

Fellow band members and friends since third grade; lead guitarist Nick Loiacono, rhythm guitarist Will Escher, bassist Austin Dunn and drummer Connor Lung, along with Layla, have been playing together since they were 12 years old.

Opener “Dearest (I’m So Sorry)” starts out ferocious from the get-go with great riffs and Layla’s melodic and screamo vocals. Most of the songs are good rockers with death growl choruses and decent guitar solos. They have their delicate moments as well, often using piano and acoustic guitar.

After you get over the initial surprise of the band being only 17 years old, you will appreciate their talent and determination. On Wide Awake, PICTURE ME BROKEN has come up with some professional and polished screamo metalcore that should appeal to a broad audience. They have huge potential and I can’t wait to hear what they come up with on their next album.
