Germany’s progressive death metal masters OBSCURA complete their long-running, four-album conceptual circle with the release of Diluvium (defined as a great oceanic flood), their most evocative, diverse and vibrant release to date. Diluvium is due out July 13th on CD/LP/Digital via Relapse Records.
Watch the official video for “Diluvium” via YouTube HERE and all digital streaming services AT THIS LOCATION. “Diluvium” was directed by Mirko Witzki (Kreator, Blind Guardian, Caliban) and further explores the album’s celestial themes. The band commented further on the concept:
“With the title track of our new album we present you one of the most fast forward and brutal compositions “Diluvium” has to offer. The music video created by German Cinematographer Mirko Witzki shows the first part of a connected story relating to the band’s long running four album cycle.”
Additionally, OBSCURA will perform at select European festivals this summer including Vienna Metal Meeting, Amsterdam Metal Meeting and Summer Breeze Open Air. Stay tuned for more tour dates in the near future.
OBSCURA’s fifth studio album Diluvium is due out July 13th on CD/LP/Digital via Relapse Records. Physical packages are available via Relapse.com HERE and Digital Downloads / Streaming Services AT THIS LOCATION.
Recorded with longtime producer V. Santura (Triptykon, Pestilence) at Woodshed Studios in Landshut, Germany, Diluvium is a stunning achievement for the illustrious quartet and a landmark release for progressive metal as a whole. Founded in 2002 by guitarist/vocalist Steffen Kummerer, German progressive death metal band OBSCURA caused a stir when they – out of nowhere – toured as support for the legendary Suffocation on the band’s European tour in 2006 and independently released their debut album
Retribution that same year. From its very beginnings, the band (named after Gorguts’ inimitable 1993 full-length) demonstrated an uncanny ability for blending different forms of technical, cerebral metal into a coherent synthesis of death, thrash and black metal merged with progressive elements.
In 2009, after being acquired by Relapse Records, the band released Cosmogenesis, a marvel of technical and progressive metal that firmly established OBSCURA as one of modern extreme metal’s leading lights. Not one to bend to convention, OBSCURA distinguished themselves and their unique brand of music via the tasteful use of vocal effects, fretless bass, philosophical underpinnings, and other elements rarely touched on in extreme metal.
In addition to cracking the US Billboard charts, the release of Cosmogenesis saw OBSCURA embark on their first worldwide tour, which included visits to North America, Europe, and Japan. Cosmogenesis was followed in 2011 by Omnivium, which was lauded by Decibel, Terrorizer, Metal Injection, and dozens of others as a landmark achievement in technical music. That album entered the US and German charts while enabling the band to conduct another run of extensive touring across the globe. Five years since the release of the universally-acclaimed Omnivium, the progressive metal masters returned with their strongest and most dynamic release to date. The aptly-named Akróasis (Greek for “hearing” or “listening”) draws on all the various elements of OBSCURA‘s signature sound and combines those qualities into a cohesive and mind-blowing whole.
The band embarked on multiple world tours with such renowned artists as Cannibal Corpse, Death To All, Children of Bodom and countless others including numerous festival appearances at Hellfest, Graspop Metal Meeting and many others.
Now in 2018, OBSCURA complete their long-running, four-album conceptual circle with the release of Diluvium(defined as a great oceanic flood), their most evocative, diverse and vibrant release to date. Recorded with longtime producer V. Santura (Triptykon, Pestilence) at Woodshed Studios in Landshut, Germany, Diluvium is a stunning achievement for the illustrious quartet and a landmark release for progressive metal as a whole. Complete with all the band’s signature elements plus groundbreaking polyrhythms, dramatic songwriting, and jaw-dropping virtuosity, OBSCURA raise the bar once again with an album that will go down in the annals of metal history as one of the most astonishing performances the genre has to offer.

DUST BOLT released their third album Mass Confusion
in July 2016 via Napalm Records. (Order Here)
It’s only been seven years since Southern Germans DUST BOLT won the W:O:A Metal Battle 2011 – six years the band has used to transform themselves from hot newcomers into national thrash heroes with their debut Violent Demolition! These Bay Area aficionados dropped their third full length Mass Confusion in July 2016. Relentless touring plus constant fine-tuning of the typical DUST BOLT sound have finally paid off: the old school songwriting is focused and free of ballast weight, yet despite all the rage and aggression there is still plenty of breathing space for melodic guitar work, gang shouts and ten-ton grooves.

The album, which is an EP, was produced, engineered and mixed by the band’s guitarist, Colin “Nylock” Cameron, and mastered by Maor Appelbaum of Maor Appelbaum Mastering. Performing on the album is guitarist Nylock, handling guitar, bass, drums, Piano Keyboards, and Orchestral Arrangements. Vocals were performed by Drogoth, with additional guitar by Neal Tiemann.
Guitarist Nylock had this to say about the writing process:
“I wanted to do something different. I wasn’t concerned with genre or subculture. I just wanted to write for the piece and let it flow from the darkness, untapped and unfiltered. Just the metal that I wanted to create, nothing more.”
The band will be celebrating the release at their Album Release show at The Slidebar in Fullerton, CA on June 24, 2018.
The band also recently released a music video for one of the tracks from the release entitled “The True Knot”which can be seen here:
The video is the third release by the band, following the release of a lyric video for the song “That Damn Devil”,and a music video for the title track “Hatred Index”, both of which are both available on the band’s YouTube channel:
Witch Casket was formed by ex-members of Symphonic Black Metal band “Sothis” from Los Angeles, and guitarist Neal Tiemann of Devildriver. After over a decade of creating Symphonic Black Metal, these musicians were looking to write more melodic death metal style songs, while still keeping the blackened symphonic aspects from the previous band’s style.

New Album “Prevail II” Out This Friday via Napalm Records
Prevail II is the proverbial yang to the yin and continues right where KOBRA AND THE LOTUS left off in 2017. The album will be released this Friday via Napalm Records and is available for pre order HERE.
Today the band is pleased to unveil their video for a cover of the Fleetwood Mac classic “The Chain”. Watch the video HERE.
“We couldn’t be more stoked to release the final closer to our ‘Prevail’ album series!! We’ve chosen a classic, recorded in 1976, and we hope to connect and carry the magic forward from that musical era.
Here it is, ‘The Chain’ by Fleetwood Mac, in full Kobra and the Lotus spirit. Can you recognize it?” says Kobra about the video and song.
The band is currently on the road in support of Prevail II, alongside Texas Hippie Coalition. The tour stops tonight in Atlanta, GA at The Masquerade and runs through June 3rd in Austin, TX. A complete list of dates can be found below.
Kobra and the rest of the band are crushing it so far on tour:
“The USA shows w/ Texas Hippie Coalition have been great so far!! The final countdown to our album release has begun and we’re pumped up to be jamming the new tunes on the road with everybody. Come out and rock with us!!!!”
Watch the video for “Let Me Love You”HERE.
A lyric video for “Losing My Humanity” is streaming HERE.
On April 27th another mark in history will be checked off for the band; the release of the second part, Prevail II. It comes as no surprise that Prevail is reminiscent of some of the material on High Priestess thanks to Kobra and Jasio’s partnership, but in truth, this massive body of work attests to Kobra And The Lotus’ massive growth as songwriters and musicians since 2015. On paper it sounds like lip service to say the band has become heavier, more dynamic and adventurous, but your ears don’t lie.
Bottom line… Kobra And The Lotus remain fearless as they move forward with Prevail II, and with good reason. It is a rock n roll feast!
